From Tailgating To Delicious Dining: Hoods BBQ

Hood’s BBQ specializes in food perfect for your next tailgating event, dinner home, or dining out.

Meet the family behind this BBQ destination and explore all the flavors Hood’s brings to the table in Kennett.

    The Look: Cozy & Comfortable

“Hood’s is a feel good, down home, easy going, cozy country spot,” said Larry Hood, owner of Hood’s BBQ & Deli. “We have been family owned and operated for 13 years and we want that to come through.”

Hood’s has a brand new beautiful renovated space with groupings of smaller tables for intimate conversations, and areas for larger parties for celebrations.

“We want this to be a local neighborhood meet up spot where you can get a home cooked meal away from home,” added Larry.

    The Menu: BBQ Blast

“At Hood’s we specialize in baby back ribs, BBQ chicken, pulled pork, and beef brisket,” said Larry. “Our BBQ is all smoked on site using local fruit and hardwoods—some for up to 16 hours.”

But Hood’s is more than BBQ. They have nightly specials like meatloaf, country ham, bison burgers, and chicken biscuits. Hood’s also features seasonal specials, with an array of seafood currently being featured for summer including salmon, oysters, and crab cakes.

“We source as many of our ingredients locally as possible,” said Larry. “We get items from Chatham, Intercourse, Coatesville, Unionville, Hockessin, and, of course, Kennett Square.”

The flavor combinations are part of the family legacy.

“Flavor inspiration comes from family recipes that have been passed down for generations,” said Larry. “We gear our specials towards what is available locally in season.”

You can also find Hood’s BBQ Sauce and Honey Mustard sauce at the restaurant and in stores around the region to purchase in bottles. Take the flavor home or on the road for your next tailgating event.

Inside The Kitchen With Larry Hood

“Starting this business stems back to when Dawn, my mother, would bake,” said Larry. “She always dreamed of opening a business. And my dad grew up on a chicken farm where they would frequently host chicken barbeques.”

It’s a family business through and through.

“The Hood family is self-taught in the art of home cooking,” said Larry. “My parents passed the passion down to us, my sister Morgan and I, and now we run the daily operations.”

The team loves to share this joy with their customers.

“We love hearing the compliments we receive from our regulars,” said Larry. “We always want to help the community and give back as much as possible. We want to provide consistent quality of a great product.”

The Kennett area is the perfect spot for Hood’s to continue impactful growth.

“We are honored to be part of Kennett,” added Larry. “It’s flattering and humbling to be recognized and praised by this community—and beyond—for the love that we put in our craft.”
