    Inspired to Love Local

Here at Fig we want to help spread some happiness and reminders of the goodness all around us. Enjoy this roundup of articles that have been featured among the pages of Fig over the past couple years. They profile some of the amazing people and organizations we have right here in Kennett Square. Please share on social media to help spread the love!

Kennett has a huge number of female-owned businesses and female-led organizations (no surprise there!) and we were able to interview many of them for our Spring 2018 Female Influencers Issue. From brewers and town council members, to artists and boutique owners, you’ll find a breadth of stories about women who lead.

Mushrooms are a significant part of local food heritage. Learn about the history and advances in technology that has allowed Kennett to become the Mushroom Capital of the World!

Kennett is known for its thriving community of art and artists. Across all genres and mediums, artists offer an important voice in any town. Check out this list of local artists offering their unique artistic perspective.

Casa Guanajuanto was founded to share the traditions of all Hispanic cultures with younger generations and with the wider community. Their Cinco de Mayo festival, which takes place in Kennett every year, is one of the top ten in the country! Learn more about this organization here.

The Kennett Food Cupboard is critically important to local families. We loved meeting two of their long-time volunteers who have a passion for serving, and who gave us insight into how the cupboard works. Read more here.

We are proud to be working with After-the-Bell in 2020 as our Social Mission Partner. This organization provides safe, structured and meaningful after-school programming for middle school students who reside in the Kennett Consolidated School District. Read more about what they are doing to positively impact the lives of local middle schoolers.

For generations, Longwood Gardens has enriched the community with its deep-rooted commitment to preservation, innovation, and education. We consider them a champion at place-making—quite literally putting Kennett Square on the map. Read some interesting history about the gardens here.
